Ocean Innovation Consortium
VISION&MISSION
In the speech by then-Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at the grand opening ceremony for special
events in commemoration of the 20th Marine Day,on July 20th, 2015, the launch of “Project to Cultivate
Marine Pioneers of the Future” was announced. Here, a consortium made by government, industry, and
academia will undertake various human capacity building activities leading to a fivefold increase in the
number of engineers engaged in marine resource development in Japan to 10,000 engineers by 2030.
On
the 4th of October 2016, the "Ocean Innovation Consortium" officially started its activities. The Nippon
Foundation Ocean Innovation Consortium,as an All-Japan initiative for the strategic development of the
offshore industry, is dedicated to training future generations of ocean engineers and to expanding
awareness about the importance and potential of marine energy resources.

Joint R&D
With major growth forecasts for ocean development, including offshore renewable energy as well as offshore oil and natural gas, the project seeks to train technicians who will drive this growth.
In recent years, The Nippon Foundation has been promoting innovation in technological development as well as human resource training in the field of ocean development.
This technological development includes grant programs for technological development in cooperation with organizations in Scotland, the United States, and Norway.
OUR PARTNERS
